Footage purporting to show unreleased gameplay from Grand Theft Auto 6 began circulating online this week, just days before Rockstar Games is due to unveil an official preview of the title on Netflix.
According to Video Games Chronicle, clips appearing to show the game’s protagonist, Jason, driving a car have surfaced, with GTA 6 gameplay footage showing Jason playing basketball, fighting and driving has appeared online alongside new images allegedly revealing parts of the game’s map. In one video, Jason is seen driving a car on the highway when he turns directly into oncoming traffic and hits a delivery van, sparking a street fight.
What the leaked clips show
Dexerto reported that the material began spreading on August 18, just nine days before Rockstar is set to premiere its GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix. In the same clip, the angry driver exits the video and threatens to get some teeth out of your face, before the two engage in melee combat. Separate footage reportedly shows Jason playing basketball and interacting with other characters, alongside images said to reveal sections of the in-game map.
Rockstar has not commented on the authenticity of the footage. As with previous unofficial leaks surrounding the title, players and journalists have urged caution, since Grand Theft Auto 6 has repeatedly attracted fabricated or AI-generated clips designed to mimic genuine leaked content.
GTA 6 has had a bunch of fake leaks over the years, but this one is legitimate and shows an in-development build, gaming outlet Tech4Gamers said of the new footage.
An official reveal already scheduled
The leak arrives just ahead of Rockstar’s own showcase. Landing on Thursday, 27 August 2026, at 3:00 p.m. ET, Netflix subscribers will have an exclusive six-hour window before footage is uploaded to Rockstar’s official channels. The choice of a streaming platform for a major game reveal reflects how studios increasingly look beyond dedicated gaming press to reach mainstream audiences.
On August 27, an Extended Look at GTA 6 will premiere on Netflix at 3pm EST before rolling out to Rockstar’s YouTube channel six hours later. It is expected to be the first extended look at real gameplay since Rockstar released two cinematic trailers, neither of which included confirmed in-game footage. Anticipation for the title, one of the best-selling entertainment franchises of all time, has made it a persistent target for leakers since a major security breach in 2022 exposed dozens of early development clips, as Tech4Gamers noted.
A long road to release
The renewed leak activity comes as Grand Theft Auto 6 approaches a launch date that has already slipped twice. GTA 6 had previously been targeted for a 2025 release date before it was originally delayed to May 26, 2026, and Rockstar Games announced the game has been delayed to Nov. 19, 2026, according to ESPN.
The delay was revealed as part of Take-Two Interactive’s quarterly earnings report, the Hollywood Reporter noted, with the publisher stating it remained confident Rockstar would deliver an unrivalled game. For European players, who make up a substantial share of the franchise’s global fanbase, the wait now stretches well into next year, with the console release still confined to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and no PC version yet confirmed.
Whether the newly leaked clips prove genuine will likely become clear once Rockstar’s official preview airs. Until then, the studio’s silence leaves fans to weigh unverified footage against the countdown to next week’s scheduled reveal.
