Sponsored Content Policy
News Unlimited publishes a small amount of paid content. This policy explains what counts as paid content, how we label it, and what a sponsor can and cannot buy. It sits alongside our Editorial Charter, which it does not change.
What counts as sponsored content
Anything someone has paid for, or given us something of value for, is sponsored content — whether we wrote it or the sponsor did. That covers:
- Sponsored articles: a piece published at a sponsor’s request, on a topic agreed with them.
- Brand mentions: a paid mention of, or link to, a company or product. A paid mention always makes the whole article sponsored content — we never place one inside our own journalism.
- Newsletter sponsorships, once our newsletters launch.
How we label it
- Every sponsored piece carries a “Sponsored” label above the headline and wherever it appears in a list of articles.
- A box at the end of the piece names the sponsor and links to this policy.
- Every link to the sponsor or its products is marked as sponsored, so search engines never read it as an editorial recommendation.
- Sponsored pieces never take the lead position on our front pages and are not submitted to Google News.
- Each sponsored piece is published on one of our sites only.
What a sponsor cannot buy
- Any say over our journalism: what we cover, how we cover it, or what we leave out — including our coverage of the sponsor itself.
- A mention or link inside our editorial articles.
- Changes to, or removal of, anything we have already published.
- Content presented as our own reporting.
Editorial review
Our editors review every sponsored piece before it is published. We check factual claims, may edit for accuracy and clarity, and may decline any piece or sponsor without giving a reason. Sponsored content must meet the same standard of accuracy as everything else we publish.
What we do not accept
We do not publish sponsored content for gambling, speculative investment schemes, payday loans, tobacco or vaping products, political parties or campaigns, or adult content, nor content that makes health or financial claims we cannot verify.
Questions and complaints
If you think a piece should have been labelled and wasn’t, or have any other concern about our paid content, write to us at contact@news-unlimited.com. We aim to respond within five working days.
