We tested four mid-priced commuter e-bikes over three months, riding each on the same set of Copenhagen routes to see how their stated battery ranges held up in ordinary daily use.
In mild spring conditions, all four came close to their advertised figures. On cold mornings below five degrees, measured range fell by between 15 and 30 percent.
How we tested
Each bike covered the same 14-kilometre loop, with the same rider, tyre pressure and assist level, repeated across a range of temperatures.
“The honest range is the cold-morning range. That is the number to plan your week around, not the showroom figure.”
Our recommendation depends on distance: for commutes under ten kilometres each way, any of the four is comfortable year-round.
